Between February 21-23, 2025, the National Philosophical Counseling Association (NPCA) successfully hosted its 7th International Conference on Philosophical Counseling and Practice via Zoom. This landmark event brought together nearly 40 speakers from around the world, including experts and practitioners from the United States, Italy, Romania, Croatia, Latvia, Russia, South Africa, China, India, Spain, and Canada.
A key highlight of this conference was the strong contribution from ReCentre Timișoara, home to the European Logic-Based Therapy & Consultation Institute, and an official internship partner of the West University of Timișoara’s (UVT) Master’s Program in Philosophical Counseling and Consultancy (UVT MA in PCC). Through this collaboration, students and faculty engaged with international scholars, presenting research that pushes the boundaries of philosophical counseling.
ReCentre and UVT MA in PCC’s Contribution to the Conference
We are especially proud of ReCentre members and students from UVT’s MA Program in Philosophical Counseling and Consultancy, who made significant contributions to this year’s conference. Among the standout presentations:
- Krisztina Fitu (Baricz) – „Enhancing Children’s Well-Being Through Logic-Based Therapy: A Structured Intervention Framework.”
Exploring how philosophical counseling techniques can be applied in child development to enhance emotional well-being. - Lukas A. Svihura – „Counseling with Rorty: On Self-Creation through Redescription.”
Examining how Rorty’s philosophy can be integrated into Logic-Based Therapy (LBT) to help individuals reshape their narratives for personal growth. - Anca-Cornelia Tiurean – „Becoming My Own Socrates: Conceptualization Exercises in Philosophical Practice.”
Investigating self-exploration through philosophical exercises inspired by the Socratic method. - Marian Tataru – „The Flexibility of Logic-Based Therapy Across Contexts.”
Discussing how LBT can be adapted to various cultural and social frameworks. - Aarohi Mhatre – „Logic-Based Therapy and the Philosophy for Children/Communities’ 4C.”
Connecting LBT with Philosophy for Children methodologies, emphasizing critical, creative, collaborative, and caring thinking. - Florin Lobont – „Empowering Critical Minds: Metacognition and Logic-Based Therapy for Deconstructing Totalitarian Narratives within Students’ Communities of Philosophical Inquiry.”
Addressing the role of metacognition in dismantling authoritarian thought patterns through philosophical dialogue.
These contributions showcase the depth of research and practical applications cultivated at ReCentre and UVT, further solidifying their role in advancing philosophical counseling in Europe and beyond.
From Conference to Global Impact: Publication in NPCA’s International Journal
The impact of this collaboration extends beyond the conference itself. The presentations delivered by UVT students and faculty are now slated for publication in NPCA’s International Journal of Philosophical Practice. This marks an important step in ensuring that the latest research in philosophical counseling and Logic-Based Therapy (LBT) reaches a wider academic and professional audience.
A Special Thanks from NPCA
Dr. Elliot D. Cohen, Executive Director of the NPCA and founder of Logic-Based Therapy, extended his sincere gratitude to Professor Florin Lobont, Director of UVT’s MA Program and Managing Partner at ReCentre, for his instrumental role in organizing the conference sessions. Dr. Cohen described his initiatives and involvement as ongoing contributions that reinforce the role of philosophical counseling in addressing people’s life problems and challenges. The success of this conference is a testament to the growing impact of philosophical practice, with ReCentre and UVT standing at the forefront of this evolving field.
